Firstly, this is one of the worst apps in the store. Secondly I was a sucker & purchased it. Why? Mainly because I was waiting for DailyBurn to release their highly anticipated iPhone app . I saw it and bought the app without even reading the description. FAIL.

Pros:
-You get to make fun of people that buy this app.

Cons:
-Useless
-Drains battery (God forbid.)

The app description says:

FatBurner2K is the only application for the iPhone specifically designed to vibrate fat molecules. In fact, the application is so
focused on shaking your fat molecules that it’s the only thin[g] it does.

Yeah, shake…. Something else comes to mind when it starts vibrating… not a fat burner…it even has a ‘pulse’ setting…

I however, will say that on the DailyBurn blog, they did mention that this was a complete joke. So while giving them some sort of credit, they did but the app under the “Entertainment” category, yet, the app is still CrApp…

.5/5

This was a review I wrote a while back, but forgot to post it. Fortunately, the app is no longer available.

I have no idea why I bought this app, must have been one late night…

It’s adds another tally to the pointless/worse app category. the app is a virtual stove-top at you finger-tips..!

There are two buttons in the bottom right corner, when you touch the left one of the two, the left burner comes on with a click and 1:30 shows up in the timer window above the button pressed.

If you press the right button, the right-most (smaller) burner turns on and the timer appears above the button. The more you press the button(s) the more time that is added to the timer. When the timer runs out, that corresponding burner turns off. It you touch any of the burners, you’ll hear a sizzling sound and a noticeable cold spot on the burner.

After turning the large burner on, if you “rub” the burner an “evil burner” will appear and depending on how you rub it will make a purring/growling sound and will rotate if you move your finger around the burner.

There really aren’t any pros nor cons to this app, it’s pointless…

Pros:
-Um Interesting idea?

Cons:
-Not worth $2
-Pointless

Personally I think pointless apps should cost anything, but o well.

$1.99

Pros:

-Nice layout

-Easy to navigate

-Can be stress relieving

Cons:

-Have to buy extra poems

3.5/5

Poem Flow is an app that lets the user get a poem a day, and read them as a regular poem, or, if the iPhone is turned sideways, the poem is animated to play as the poem should be read.

This is a nicely organized app, and easy to use. However there isn’t much to it. I enjoy reading the poems day to day, but I’m not sure I like the idea of subscribing to get more poems by amount or by year. I’m the type of person to pay for an app once, and enjoy it for the time I use it. But since the app is free to begin with, its not that bad to pay the .99¢ for 3 months or $2.99 for a year of extra poems.

The poems are informational as well, by giving the title, author, as well as the date or year the poem was published.

This is an app for people who are interested in poetry, whether it be writing poems themselves, or reading the works of others. You can even see where the poem was read last, if you choose to participate in the geolocation.

While in video mode, the poem moves fluidly and you can almost hear the voice of the poet reading it along with the words appearing on screen. It’s very calming if you’re having a tough day, and you can choose poems to read that you already have in your library. But if you want more, you have to wait for the next day to receive a new poem. Personally, I would rather that all the poems be accessible at once than having to wait, since I’m a little impatient, but that’s just me.

All in all, this app is awesome for coffee shop sitters, students in a poetic writing class, and even for professors teaching said class as well.

Rating: 3.5/5

Game Crazy iPhone App, is an app for gamers. It is the first-of-its kind for an iPhone application. The app lets you view the details about new games and upcoming releases. You can watch trailers and even check trade-in prices. And if you happen to want to go get a game, there is a in-app store locator. The app is split into 3 main section: Games, Stores & Settings.

Under the Games tab, you can view all games, new releases and upcoming releases.

In the game details screen, you can view its number of players, systems it’s available fore, Publisher, rgular trdae in price, MVP trade in and the used price of the game. You can also find a synopsis about the game and view the trailer or find a store closest to you on where to buy the game.

Under the Stores tab, you can locate the closet store near you or search another city.

Under the settings tab, you can choose which systems you wish the app to view games for. So if you are only interested in games for your Wii & PSP, then the app will only display games for those systems.

I was quite surprised on how well the app was organized and how well it flowed. It was easy to find games for the systems I was looking for and even read a short amount about the game. This is a great app for any console, PC or Mac gamer!

Cons:

-Not a variety of bursting sounds

-No sound when you are creating a trail with your finger

-Logo at the bottom is a little distracting

-“Picture” on the record show details is somewhat odd.

iLoveFireworks, I link it one of the best firework simulation apps in the iTunes App Store!

It has what all the other firework simulators lack and even has an interesting “firework-show recorder”

Upon opening the application you can either tap on New Fireworks or playback a previously saved “show” (Replay Fireworks.)

If you tap on the New Fireworks button, you’ll be presented with a black screen and the iLoveFireworks logo at the bottom. If you tap on the screen you’ll see a random colored & style generated firework burst. (This is offtopic, but the first person to reply “I found it” will recieve a promo code for the app PhotoShow.) If you hold down your finger on the screen for a longer period of time (5+ seconds), you’ll hear a louder and thus a larger burst. If you move your finger across the screen, you’ll see a trail follow it and when you lift your finger, a large burst will occur as well.

The particle graphics were pretty good, as they do fall with gravity depending on how you are holding you iPhone/iTouch. While I like the particle graphics, I thought that they disappeared too quickly. One of the things I have yet to see is the “willow” burst in any firework sims. This one is no exception unfortunately.

While I enjoyed the numerous variety of bursts and colors, the really neat things about this application is that it starts automatically recording your session, when you are done you can tap on the “X” in the bottom right-hand corner, this will pull up a new screen that will allow you to name and rate your session and save them for later. When playing the sessions back at a later time, they will repeat themselves in the exact order and style as you had done before. When the recording period ends, it will repeat itself.

Overall:

I think this application is fairly neat and it is about the same price as other firework simulators ($3.99). I am not exactly sure why they
decided to implement the record feature into the application other than its cool-factor, I thought maybe I could cue up some music off my iPod and set the fireworks to the music. While is is possible, it is a little difficult to time the two application to work at the same time.

True or Lie is an application that acts as a Lie Detector.

Ths app uses a method that I haven’t seen in the app store. You begin by placing the microphone of the iPod earbuds headset on the artery on your throat so that the app can “hear” your pulse. Once the app picks up your pulse, you can then ask questions to the person you took the pulse of and watch the meter to see whether they “Lie” or are telling the “Truth.”

Layout:
The layout of the application is relatively simple- you have the meter on the main part of the screen, a switch near the bottom to switch between the lie detector or to measure a person’s heart rate. Then you have 3 buttons at the very bottom to tell you – how to use, to measure, and to reset.

When using the Lie detector, I was unable to follow the directions, as I do not have the special earbuds, so I replicated my heart rate approximately by tapping the mic on the iPhone, I then spoke a few truthful statement and a few false statements, is was a bit disturbing to see that is was uniquely correct about 80% of the time. Much better than some of the other applications that I have seen in the appstore. So does it work? Well I can;t say for sure, as I am not quite following the directions. I will eventually try it like the instructions say. Regrading the instructions, the text is awful in that the grammar is WAY off. The developer is obviously not a native English speaker.

The other part of this application, is the Heart Rate monitor, I again had to tap on the mic for my approximate heart rate – it was close, but it could have been off due to the way I was tapping the mic. Also I am not quite sure how well the mic will work on the Apple iPhone headset – whether it is sensitive or not to pick up your heart rate.

Graphics:
I really like the graphics in the application as they look very realistic for both the lie detector and the heart rate monitor,

Overall:
This is one of those unique applications that can sometimes work and sometimes not so much. Again, as I said before, I really didn’t follow the direction like I should have, but it ended up being about 80% correct, so that in itself , to me, is impressive. At $2.99 for an “entertainment” app I think is a little on the high side. For $1.99, I think would be just right.

Pros:
-Great graphics
-bette accuracy than other “lie detector” apps
-Lie detector and heart rate monitor

Cons:
-Instructions have bad English grammar
-Isn’t always accurate
-Must have special headphones to use (Apple’s headphone/mic combo)

Sound:
While I cringed as I heard the sound, I then realized that as I kept my finger down on the screen, half of the sound clip began to loop and did so up to 4 times. After that, the sound clip loops.

Overall
This application is really only for people that want to make other cringe, but the problem her is the sound is so short in length. I’d like to see a longer sound clip and possibly more than one sound clip that randomly plays when you touch the screen. Also the possibility on having to keep you finger in motion to make the sound rather than having it just stay static.

Note: Since I find this application quite useless…unless you really like this sound, I figured that this is going to fit a niche audience and really didn’t factor “usability” into my rating.

Amy A.I. is an app in which you “chat” to Amy A.I. via the app. The little app took some time to load, but once it was open it was quite entertaining.

Pros:
-Entertaining
-Unique app
-Very easy to use
-Multi-lingual

Cons:
-Amy’s brain is not very broad
-Does not recognize IM jargon (exe. idk, lol, etc.)

4/5

$1.99

Even at some point the A.I. made me laugh because of its replies (which is impressive). However it can get confused at times, thus confusing you. You can see the dialog in some of the screenshots to see what I mean.

“Speaking” with Amy is much like using any other instant messenger.

The app has only one option: language selection.

I found this to be quite entertaining, as I switched over to Spanish. Amy’s “brain” loaded very quickly and I was able to communicate in Spanish. The language selection is a great little feature if you want to work on you 2nd language communication skills. Other languages also include French, Italian, & German. I however, have not tried any of these, as I am not familiar with any of those languages.

In the end I would like to see what updates come of this. I’d like to see Amy’s brain a bit more extensive on topics. Like the ability to ask questions that you would normally look up in an encyclopedia or something to that affect. Have the ability to make her mad,, (making her end the session/app). Amy seems to “nice.” The A.I. never seems to fluctuate moods.

For some people that would like to get some stuff off their chest, this might be the app for you…you might even Ask Amy what she thinks. This app is highly recommended if you want to work on your language communication skills and if you just want to be entertained, then it’s still recommended.

Cons:
-Controls can be difficult.

4/5

When I first learned about this application in the forums, it sparked my interest, until it said in the description “firework.” Then I was like ‘o great, not another ‘firework’ app. However soon after downloading this app, I soon found myself bedazzled by the app.

The best way to describe this app is a combination of – interactive firework application combined with the Flurry screensaver from a Mac.

This application has no sound and there really is no need for it either.

If you were to just open and watch your iPhone display, you would find a mesmerizing display of colors and bursts.

Besides just watching the app do its own thing, you have the ability to interact with the “flurry”. By pinching or expanding you fingers from the center of the screen vertically, you can change the diameter of the “flurries”.

By pinching or expanding you fingers on the right side of the screen vertically, you can change the colors of the “flurries”.

If that isn’t enough by using the same technique as described above on the left-hand side of the screen, you can change the length of the “flurries”.

And finally using the pinch/expand technique horizontally on the center of the screen you can change the speed that the “flurries” move at.

When you first begin the app, you will see a screen that displays instructions, however, I found that the screen disappears too quickly and you might have to use this review as a reference or exit the app and re-enter it to see the instruction screen again.

I also found that controlling the various changes of the “flurries” a bit difficult. Using the pinch/expand method, the variables changed a little too quickly. It was almost “this or that,” there almost seems nothing in-between. Besides the options of changing the “flurries” appearance, when you touch the screen, the “flurries” will follow. And finally (and the coolest part in my opinion) is when you double tap on the screen, each “flurry” will explode in firework-like fashion.

This app runs for $1.99 in the app store and is recommended for self-mesmerizing enjoyment or providing enjoyment for the “little ones.”

While I would like to see a “Tap-To-Continue” instruction screen and better handling of controls, I find this to be one of the best (and mesmerizing) “firework-like” applications in the app store.

-Lack of customizing the height of the burst
-Lack of realistic physics.

2/5

In the past I’ve purchased PyroMania, which was a fun little application and I was excited to try out 3D Fireworks, however, I was greatly let down. Straight up, I wouldn’t recommend it right now. Here’s why:

The initial screen begins on describing you how to navigate within the application

When I first navigated the screen, it was a bit disorienting. The screen seemed to pan and move about as I tapped the screen in order to “set-off” the fireworks. I then thought about the initial screen and “locked” the camera. I started tapping the screen once again and I heard the bursts, but did not see hem, or half of the bursts would come into to screen, as if it had bursts just off screen. I unlocked the camera and moved about, I found it quite easy (and very annoying) that you could look directly up and begin spiraling. Also it has tilt controls on it, which I found a bit confusing , When you are looking down at the screen, you can see the horizon, with the fireworks bursting near the top of the screen. When you move it above your head, it’s like your watching it from directly underneath. Knowing this it seems a bit odd, I mean in physical reality that doesn’t happen…if you look up, you see nothing. If you hove your finger around the screen, it pans around the firework burst. This is a neat idea, if everything else worked out equally it would be a very nice app.

I found that you can only set off one firework at a time (no multi-touch). However by tapping multiple times you can set off several.

Once you begin messing around with the application, by tapping the screen I believed you that you could set off a firework and it would explode at that height, but it doesn’t, it seems to burst at a preset height (or randomized preset height). The main thing I was impressed with, was the assortment of colors and types of breaks, it however (as with other firework apps) lack willow-style fireworks (bursts that break and then slowly fall toward the ground) and it also doesn’t have and multi-break explosions.

There are however, a multitude of colors and different burst types compared to other firework applications. You might even come across a bursting-smiley.

If you stop touching the screen for a few seconds, the app will, on its own, begin to “shoot” off fireworks

In the application, you have the ability to pause what is currently on screen and move around it (hence 3D). You also have the ability to change the time of day – sunset (orange in sky & stars), after-sunset (blue in sky & stars) and night (black with stars). Truthfully, I felt this was an un-needed feature.

I am still flabbergasted as to why the firework applications don’t utilize the mic input (like Ocarina). It would be really cool to see the fireworks explode to music.

Overall I would not recommend this application even for $0.99. I however wouldn’t mind paying $1.99 if they ironed out the viewing issues and added some of the features I mentioned.

So you go to a new sushi restaurant in town, you think, “man I bet they have an awesome yellow tail roll here”. You are seated at a table by the beautiful waitress, you open the menu, and low and hold…the menu uses terms that you know nothing about. You think to yourself, “I could ask the waitress, but then she’ll think I’m stupid!” That’s when it hits you, only the night before, you downloaded Sushi Time to your iPhone. With Sushi Time, you realize, “I don’t have to be a sushi pro to eat like one! Sushi Time will demystify many common terms found in sushi restaurant menus as well as fill in gaps for sushi connoisseurs.”
So you whip out your iPhone and startup Sushi Time, you scroll down the list to lookup up the word “fugu” your finger shakes with excitement as you realize you are so close to revealing the secrets of the name…You tap it and the app reveals a tile with a picture, hey you “realize that looks like yellow-tail”…

Pros:
-Simple UI
-items listed by Name & by Type.
-has photo of each item.Cons:
-Takes to long to get info (even it is just that one extra swiping motion).
-Larger database would be nice
-Lack of description

…you then flip over the tile with a swipe of your finger and it reads:

Toxic! “O sheesh”, you think to yourself, “good thing I didn’t get that…”

You realize Sushi Time might have just saved your life…

Sushi Time is a simple app. Its used to look up terms that may be used in a sushi restaurant, and it you are daring enough to try a random dish, you might want to check to see what you are actually getting.

Terms are sorted in alphabetical order or you can view them by type.

Within the list view, navigation is simple, it’s like scrolling through your contacts. Upon clicking on a term a tile will appear with the name and a picture. You can swipe over the tile to reveal information about the term by using the swiping motion. Besides the description you also gave the option of adding to your favorites.

Therefore you can pull up those terms next time you want to order them in a resturant and impress the waitress…

Overall I was expecting more. I thought it would geve me a little more information about each item. I also don’t like the – see picture then swipe to see description. I am not quizing myself over terms, I just want the facts, so It would be nice if they made it just one page instead of a flip screen. $1.99 is asking too much for this app at the moment.

Pyro Mania is a neat little app. You can create yourself your very own mini firework show.

Pros:
-Nice particle graphics.
-Nice realistic smoke graphics.

Cons:
-Fireworks bursts are the same 2 burst types.
-Firework colors are either in the pale side or over saturated, lot so much realistic.

It would be nice to see more firework bursts. Also sound active would
also be pretty cool and I think the particle graphics could be greatly
improved.

$1.99

4.5/5

When you tap the screen a firework burst is created, if you touch the screen for about 2 seconds a larger burst is created (and the sound is larger as well.) If you move your finger across the screen a streamer
follows the path of your finger and a small burst appears where ever your finger stopped. Is also accompanied by a streamer-like effect.

The particle graphics in this app is fairly good. Depending on
the direction of the iPhone, the particle will fall downward. If
creating a lot of bursts, a realistic smoke/haze will appear and it
looks cool when the bursts light it up. However, I wish the smoke would
last longer – it would be more realistic.

So far I have been able to create up to 5 effects at a time (using 5 fingers).

Overall this is quite a neat app. It should give you a fair amount of entertainment and some replay ability.

You just push the camera icon on the main screen, snap a picture and it load (takes a long time – 30 secs+), then it opens safari and displays the movie details.

You can also view the history of your searches (if you ended up wasting that much time)

Conclusion: This app takes WAY to long to load results. It, however, is a nice concept, but needs updating and it would be nice to see the results loaded in the app itself.

What’s On is a TV program look up for your TV cable or satellite in your area.

Pros:
-Simple & easy to use Interface
-Accurate
-Wide range of coverage (I think they are about to include Canada in their listings as well)
-Color Coding Channels
-Nice UI
-Ability to edit the channels that show up in your listing (add/remove)
-When loading browse window it automatically load to your current date & time.

Cons
-Ad Supported
-Every other launch includes a full length ad, without getting past until timer ends.
-While NOW it’s FREE, it did not start out that way. For some that paid for the program, are now stuck with ads in-app.

Was $1.99 , Now FREE

After you have entered your zip code, the app lists different broadcasting services in your area, like- DirectTV, Grande Telecom., Suddenlink Comm., etc. They have now a “locate me” feature for quicker lookup.

The Browse window shows all the channels for the service you selected.

I like the new interface, it looks better and has a nice channel color coding feature:

Purple – Movie

Orange – News

Green – Sports

In the browse window you can scroll through the channels just like you would with your contacts.
If you swipe your finger (like flipping through pictures), you move through time, in 30 minute intervals. The buttons in the top left and right corners when tapped move forward or backward by a day. If you can
navigate through you contacts with ease, then you should have no trouble navigating this app.

If you click on a title, it will give you details if any. You can also send the listing by e-mail to whomever you want as a reminder.

If you have a show that you want to look up often, you can create a favorites list, that way all your favorite shows and their next show times are in one view, or you can view them in Alphabetical order, or customize the order.

And finally this handy dandy app allows you to search for a show. So far I have found this app to work the best for what it does. The UI that they have updated is really really nice, especially the channel color coding.
